Description The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co. provides legal services and advice to the Firm globally. We're looking for an experienced attorney who will work independently and with outside counsel to represent the Firm in legal matters, as well as provide advice on a broad range of other matters and issues. As an Payments Negotiations Lawyer, you will be responsible for the provision of legal services to the Payments business which offers a full suite of wholesale and e-Commerce payment solutions to J.P. Morgan clients. You will be leading the customer negotiations with J.P. Morgan’s external clients as well as providing assistance to the development of innovative payment methods and solutions (i.e., real time and emerging payment systems, virtual solutions, etc.). The position will entail negotiation, provision of legal advice on a wide range of regulatory and compliance issues, daily business support, drafting as well as advice on documentation issues. You will join a successful, well established team of professionals, and will be provided with extensive training upon joining followed by continued support when needed. The position is located in London and the successful candidate should live within commuting distance of this location. Job responsibilities Advising on products and services, including contract negotiation and documentation Advising on offering and marketing documents and new business initiatives Provide and coordinate legal advice across complex issues for the products that you support and in connection with the development and implementation of innovative product solutions as part of the new business initiative process Collaborate with global business teams and legal/compliance colleagues and other control functions in each of our regions to address and resolve complex issues, develop policies, procedures and training materials to advance the business objectives in a compliant manner Instruct and liaise with external counsel, as required, on transactional and bespoke product matters, including review and analysis of legal opinions Interpreting existing laws, rules, and regulations and advising on changes thereto Providing legal advice to the Board of Directors, the business, and functions. Legal selects, engages, and manages outside counsel for the Firm on all matters in which outside counsel is engaged Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills A minimum of three years of post-admission legal practicing experience Law degree. All candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment Knowledge of, and experience with, complex financial products and services Ability to assume significant independent responsibility immediately Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Outstanding organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex matters simultaneously Ability to think strategically Ability to write well and communicate effectively to both legal and non-legal professionals, including senior executives of the Firm Ability to build and maintain good client and colleague relationships Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills Previous banking and/or commercial negotiation experience is desirable Willing and able to learn the business, the firm and all stakeholders, the clients, control function partners and employees Strong and effective interpersonal skills Works well individually and on teams with the ability to build strong. networks and relationships, share information and support colleagues Strong negotiation skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to suggest and implement change to improve operational efficiency All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.
