The Central Team is responsible for implementing the Council's planning policies for the ongoing physical regeneration of the City Centre, including nationally significant development areas such as Corridor Manchester, First Street, Great Jackson Street, and Piccadilly East.
The team also manages the growth of the City Centre into strategically important regeneration areas, creating great places that bring communities together, attract investment, and ensure Manchester continues to thrive.

About The Candidate: Candidates will help ensure that new developments align with Council priorities, ensuring high standards of design and meeting Manchester’s target of becoming a Zero Carbon City by 2038.
Working closely with the Planning Service’s Urban Design, Heritage, and Sustainability Team, the role requires knowledge of historic buildings and climate objectives, ensuring growth responds positively to the historic environment.
The role is office-based in the Town Hall Extension in the centre of Manchester, with site visits expected. Initiative and professional judgment are necessary for making sound planning decisions.
Extensive engagement with elected members, residents, businesses, and stakeholders, including heritage organisations, is essential for providing high performance and delivering quality development proposals. Close liaison with other council services will support corporate objectives and initiatives.
