Job Summary
The post has arisen to cover a period of absence to start as soon as possible and is for a period of 6 months, which can be extended by mutual agreement.
Locum Consultant in Anaesthetics. The job is a full-time post comprising 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). 9 PAs will be dedicated to anaesthetic sessions which may be worked flexibly through the week. The remaining 1 PA will be allocated for SPA.
Main Duties of the Job
The ACSA-accredited anaesthetic department has 53 Consultant Anaesthetists, 6 Speciality Doctors and 32 doctors in training providing anaesthetic duties in 18 theatres, in addition to a number of areas outside the theatre complex including obstetrics, interventional radiology, endoscopy, and the cardiac catheterisation suite. The department also provides a cardio-pulmonary exercise testing service and high-risk pre-operative clinic. Regional anaesthesia is actively encouraged and taught. The department also includes a very active group of chronic pain Consultants.
Frimley Park has a very busy emergency department, and this is reflected in the utilisation of the CEPOD and the orthopaedic trauma lists, both of which operate seven days per week. The theatres work an extended day (12 hours/day) and Consultants on call in both anaesthetics and ICU are present on site until 10pm.
The trust is paper-free and uses an electronic patient record system (EPIC). This is an integrated clinical information system that encompasses all aspects of patient care.
