We’ve got an exciting opportunity available for talented individuals to join our workforce - perhaps this is the opportunity you’ve been looking for? Read on to find out more…

Working for Nottingham City Council has great benefits. As well as competitive pay, great leave entitlement and access to a generous pension scheme, we strive to create an innovative, inclusive and progressive work culture where everyone is supported to do and be their very best.

In return, we are looking for people like you - people who are innovative, driven and committed to serving and improving Nottingham. So, if you are passionate about making a difference to the lives of those who live and work in our city, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

Nottingham City Council's Multi Systemic Therapy Child Abuse and Neglect (MST CAN) Team are looking for the ideal candidate to join our team as an MST CAN Therapist (1 post)

MST CAN is a home-based intensive treatment for families with children and young people subject to a Child Protection Plan under the category of neglect or physical harm. It is an evidenced-based treatment that has been developed to work with families with complex needs, in order to increase safety and keep children at home. MST CAN works to address specific problems and risk factors that brought the family to the attention of Children's Social Care. The major goals are to keep families together, assure that children are safe, prevent abuse and neglect, and reduce mental health difficulties experienced by adults and children while increasing natural support networks.

MST CAN adopts an intensive approach (numerous sessions per week) and works with families in their natural ecology (their home, school and wider community) rather than in a clinical setting. Appointments are made to meet the family's needs, and an MST CAN practitioner is available 24/7 to all families in treatment through an on-call facility.

You will have a professional qualification in a relevant field e.g. in Social Work, Mental Health and also have experience and knowledge of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, and/or pragmatic behavioral interventions. Full training and continuous professional development in the MST CAN model will be provided. Therapists receive weekly supervision from the MST CAN Manager and clinical consultation from MST Services.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

* Qualified to post-graduate level in a relevant field, e.g. social work, mental health nursing, clinical/forensic psychology, health specialism or relevant equivalent.
* Strong understanding and practical experience of the case management process including assessment, analysis, planning, intervention, and review and how it promotes good outcomes for the children and families.
* Significant experience of family-based interventions with young people.
* Experience of direct use of a therapeutic model of working with families e.g. CBT, SFBT, systemic family therapy or behavioral approaches.
* Sophisticated understanding and demonstrable experience of all aspects of safeguarding and management of risk to children and young people as they relate to the work of the team.

- A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.

- The role requires you to participate in the on-call rota.

At Nottingham City Council we believe that work is what you do, not where you do it. We offer different working arrangements, depending on the role, including hybrid working. Further information on Worker Types and what these mean in terms of how and where you work can be found on the additional information for applicants page.

For informal enquiries, please contact Angela Cheadle, MST CAN Supervisor, by telephone on 07947198863 or by email at angela.cheadle@nottinghamcity.gov.uk.

Closing Date: 6th May 2025

Please note there may be occasions where we close the advert before the closing date and we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Interviews will be held: 15/16th May 2025

If you have any technical issues when completing your application, please contact our Employee Service Centre: Technical Support.

By applying to this job, you agree to our Terms & Conditions.
