Description HS2 is Great Britain’s new high-speed railway. Once operational, HS2’s British-built bullet trains will provide zero-carbon journeys between the UK’s two largest cities, Birmingham and London. HS2 Rail Systems Package 2 involves the design, supply, build, testing and commissioning of all tunnel and lineside M&E systems between London and Birmingham. Scope of works includes installation of tunnel ventilation, cable management, containment and earthing, fire suppression systems, LV distribution and tunnel lighting, cross passage doors, earthing & bonding, points heating, junction lighting and power installation. Costain will be prime contractor, delivering the works with the support of a design team and specialist supply chain partners. To achieve the automation of the drilling, brackets and CMS installation within the tunnels of HS2 and associated logistics and bracket design. Providing management and leadership of a multi-disciplinary team comprising fabrication, software and robotics engineers, section and site engineers. Utilising robotics and manual installation methods, responsible for planning, feasibility, design, installation, commissioning, support and managing critical paths In this position you will have a strong level of ownership and a background in process automation and production engineering, programme and project management. This role involves implementing automated processes to enhance production efficiency, working with robotics, machine vision and controls systems. Working with software and equipment suppliers across the UK, delivering complete bespoke automated production Ensure deliverables are produced to industry standards in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, project and client requirements This is a unique chance to be at the forefront of services innovation, within a tunnelling environment Responsibilities Deliver all activities to cost, design, specification, schedules, procurement and quality criteria. Assist with objectives, budget, enquires, proposals as required. Maintain a good working relationship with client and third party’s Deliver the works in line with the budget, ensuring costs, risks and opportunities are proactively managed. Ensure work is carried out in accordance with relevant codes, standards and procedures. Delivery of acceptance tests (FAT and SAT). Implement company and client/project policies and procedures Ensure technical integrity of all discipline deliverables on the project. Approval, checking and preparation of design/engineering documentation. Ensure interfaces with other disciplines are clearly defined & engineered. Liaise with other disciplines, departments, project personnel, clients, etc. Ensure construction is safely delivered to programme and targets Appreciate the need for temporary works and any outside influences affecting site operations. Ability to identify and address errors at the design stage or problems encountered during construction. Knowledge and experience of managing direct delivered works and sub-contract management. Successful management and handover of installations on a major project Ensuring all works are delivered in accordance with approved RAMS, permits, ITPs and the construction programme. Experience in the implementation of automated production processes. Knowledge of robotics, pneumatic and mechanical systems used in production environments. Ability to use a logical approach to problem solving and root cause corrective action Analysis of production processes to determine the best use of automation technologies. Lead continuous improvement initiatives, problem-solving, and process improvement activities to enhance quality and reduce operating costs Develop and work alongside maintenance teams for the automated processes Qualifications Qualications: Degree qualified preferred Minimum HND (or equivalent) Professional registration of relevant institution Required Experience: 8-12 years post graduate experience Performs functional tasks within a specialist discipline. Manage and lead a discipline team on projects Capable of carrying out complex assignments involving problem solving and the development of innovative technical solutions Personal Specification: Meticulous and methodical Is technically competent and always learning.
