About the Role:
As an Academic Support Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in helping students achieve academic success through tailored classroom and small-group support. You’ll assist in creating inclusive learning experiences, removing barriers to engagement, and ensuring that each learner receives the individualised attention they need to thrive within a busy secondary school setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide academic assistance to students across a range of subjects, supporting lesson delivery and revision activities.
* Work with students who require additional academic support due to mild learning difficulties, language barriers, or confidence issues.
* Assist teachers with classroom organisation and lesson preparation where needed.
* Monitor pupil progress, engagement, and provide feedback to staff to adjust support strategies.
* Help foster a positive, encouraging, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
* Support the development of learners’ independent study and organisational skills.
* Promote and maintain high standards of behaviour and respect in line with school policy.
* Ensure the well-being and safeguarding of all pupils under your care.
Job Requirements:
* Experience working with young people in educational or similar settings is highly valued.
* A strong academic background and confidence supporting core secondary subjects.
* Effective communication, patience, and interpersonal skills.
* Proactive attitude and willingness to adapt to varying student needs.
* Current university students studying Education, Psychology, English, Maths, or similar subjects are encouraged to apply.
* A genuine passion for education and pupil development.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
