Workshop Fitter Location: Essex (South East) Rate: £16 per Hour Contract: Temporary About Our Client We are working with a well-established local authority in South Essex, employing nearly 350 staff and delivering over 150 council services. Our client aims to provide high-quality and financially sustainable services while prioritising outstanding customer service and transparency in service delivery. The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Workshop Fitter to undertake maintenance and repair duties across a wide range of vehicles and equipment, from grounds maintenance equipment to cars, light commercial vehicles, and large goods vehicles. Key Responsibilities Assist in daily operation of Vehicle/Plant Workshop, including operational requirements and liaison with refuse crews, contractors, and suppliers Perform routine and reactive vehicle maintenance including: Fault finding Major overhauls and replacements Vehicle servicing Preparing vehicles for LGV and MOT tests Wheel and tyre replacement Defect reporting and documentation Conduct vehicle cleaning and maintenance Carry out driving duties including road testing, recovery, and vehicle delivery Operate plant equipment (fork lift trucks, compressors, pumps, mechanical loaders) Attend to vehicle breakdowns and conduct roadside repairs Support Workshop Manager with general duties Manage parts ordering and stock control Maintain accurate documentation and records Ensure workshop security and maintenance Essential Requirements Previous mechanical and diagnostic skills gained from servicing: Heavy goods vehicles Light commercial vehicles Municipal vehicles Valid Class 2/HGV Licence Experience driving HGV Vehicles Strong team working abilities Flexible approach to work Commitment to health and safety practices What they Offer Competitive hourly rate Opportunity to work with a diverse range of vehicles and equipment Professional working environment Supportive team structure Equal Opportunities Our client is proud to be a disability confident Leader and is committed to interviewing all disabled applicants who meet the minimum requirements.
