Financial Accountant Location: Gosport, Hampshire The role: Due to continued expansion, we are looking to appoint a new Financial Accountant to be based at our Head Office, at Gosport, Hampshire, with a working pattern of 4 days at our Head Office, and 1 day working from home. The role requires the post holder to be an experienced financial accountant, self-motivated, who can lead, motivate, manage, and develop our small Finance Accounting team, with the challenge of producing accurate and timely financial accounts for the agency, delivering a first-class service to the organisation, with accuracy integrity, and improved financial performance for the business. Due to our continued investment and expansion in the UK and overseas, the role requires a solid understanding and working knowledge of IFRS. There is also a requirement of occasional travel to other OPA UK based Oil Fuel Depots, therefore a full (preferably clean) driving licence is essential. Financial Accountant Responsibilities: Prepare month end and year end journals required to produce accurate monthly and annual accounts. Prepare month-end company and departmental accounts for the Financial Controller to review in accordance with the agreed month end timetable. Properly account for fixed assets each month including depreciation journals. Prepare month-end reconciliations for review by the Financial Controller each month. Ensure the correct treatment of foreign currency transactions and revaluation of currency balances. Assist in managing cash flow to ensure the organisation is able to meet banking covenants. Review processes carried out by the Financial Accounting team and other related business processes and implement efficiency improvements through automation and other process enhancements (continuous improvement). Manage the Financial Accounting team (currently 2 FTE) effectively whilst encouraging development and progression. Assist in the preparation of Financial Statements in line with IAS and the FreM. Support annual audit undertaken by National Audit Office (NAO) The candidate: You will be studying for full accounting qualification, be fully qualified, or qualified by experience with at least 4 years’ experience working in an accounts department. The person must have the ability to work under pressure in a demanding but supportive environment, have a positive can-do attitude with a willingness to learn, the desire and ability to resolve problems and to develop their team and our processes. Most importantly an ability to build and maintain credible positive relationships with internal, and external stakeholders throughout the business. Knowledge / Skills: Good financial/commercial understanding. Knowledge of IFRS. Experienced in managing audits or have been an auditor. Highly developed computer system skills, in an enterprise environment, in one or more software systems. Good skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel such as pivot tables and lookup/sumif formulae. Excellent numeric skills.
