We are seeking a Student Placement Team Lead to join our multi-disciplinary Practice Education Team. In this role, you will lead a team of Practice Educators to oversee clinical placements and ensure that health and social care students receive the education, experience, and support they need to thrive and develop into caring, competent, and resilient practitioners fit for the future.
You will be a registered mental health or learning disabilities nurse or AHP with extensive post-registration experience. You will be able to motivate, inspire, and support students in developing their clinical and professional skills and planning their career.
We are looking for an individual who can inform, inspire, and lead, working closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clinical teams, and education partners. Using a strengths-based approach, you'll be confident at solving problems and possess an ability to develop new approaches.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Lead and manage a team of Practice Educators, Legacy Practice Assessors, and Placement Administrators.
2. Oversee the allocation of clinical placements and ensure students receive the highest quality support from Clinical Assessors, Supervisors, and Practice Educators.
3. Foster effective communication and build strong relationships with clinical colleagues, managers, assessors, supervisors, and education providers.
4. Liaise between learners, clinical managers, assessors, and Higher Education Institutions and work creatively to create new placement opportunities and relieve capacity issues.
5. Audit placements to ensure alignment with best practice guidance and Safe Learning Environment Charter standards.
6. Promote a positive, supportive, and collaborative learning environment for students and clinical staff in line with the Educator Workforce Strategy and in response to feedback from learners.
7. Provide regular support and early interventions as needed and escalate concerns as appropriate using agreed processes.
This role is based within the practice education team and sits alongside a range of development programmes delivered by this team. Job Responsibilities
The post holder will work within the practice education team to ensure a range of practice education activities are delivered within the Trust processes including;
1. Align practice education support with NMC and HCPC standards to ensure that Nursing Students, Student Nursing Associates (SNAs), and AHP students meet these standards.
2. Engage with all students and manage their practice placements within the Trust.
3. Work in partnership with service managers to deliver support within practice areas in accordance with NMC and HCPC standards.
4. Deliver briefings to senior managers and other professionals on the requirements in relation to the NMC and HCPC standards.
5. Coordinate and deliver study days linked to a range of educational opportunities within the remit of the practice education team.
6. Assist with practice supervision linked to a range of development programmes within the remit of the Practice Education Team.
7. Ensure Practice Assessors, Supervisors, and Practice Educators are available as required in specific teams when staffing levels require it.
8. Take line management responsibility for more junior Practice Education staff.
9. Provide managerial cover for the Practice Education Team, as required, when the Practice Education Manager is absent.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Professional registration with NMC or HCPC.
* Educated to degree level in health or social care.
* Masters in Clinical Education or equivalent.
Experience
* Extensive experience of working within mental health or learning disability services in an environment with learners.
* Experience of managing staff using and reviewing policy and processes.
* Previous experience of reviewing/designing policies.
Knowledge
* Expert knowledge of Practice Education.
* Expert knowledge of HEIs and health-related degrees.
* Knowledge of Information management.
Skills and Abilities
* Provide examples of using effective communication and interpersonal skills to motivate, influence, and negotiate with managers and staff from different work areas.
* Demonstrate occasions when you have led with compassion and used analytical skills and judgement to interpret requirements and devise solutions.
* Describe situations when you have needed to interpret, present, and explain complex/technical information in an accessible way.
* Discuss how you have achieved a proactive approach to self-motivation in terms of setting your own goals, targets, and objectives.
* Are you able to travel across all areas of the Trust when in-person meetings and support are required?
