Job Opportunity: Cook
The Cook, under the direction of designated management and supervisors, will prepare, present, store, and dispatch all food products, specifically for Dining Room, Bistro (where located), marketing and catering events, and resident tray service where required. Responsibilities include following menu specifications within time limits as determined by the Dining Services Director, adhering to Commonwealth Senior Living standards, and complying with all health and safety regulations by ensuring sanitary and safe food handling at all times.
Job Duties
1. Ensure all menu items are prepared and served according to departmental policies and procedures.
2. Ensure presentation of all menu items adheres to established standards.
3. Prepare meals based on menus, nutritional programs, and individual plans.
4. Maintain quality of meals in taste, presentation, and dietary requirements.
5. Ensure food safety and quality by performing sanitary measures, cleaning, and proper storage.
6. Work efficiently and maintain a consistent pace.
7. Ensure timely meal preparation.
8. Meet residents' dietary requirements.
9. Prepare correct quantities to meet daily needs.
10. Utilize kitchen equipment during food preparation.
11. Stay productive and prepare for future needs.
12. Be flexible and volunteer for open shifts as needed.
13. Follow reporting procedures for accidents and incidents.
14. Adhere to regulations including bloodborne pathogens, infection control, hazardous materials, and fire safety.
15. Maintain inventory levels by ordering and receiving supplies timely.
16. Assist with training new employees.
17. Serve food in proper portions and temperatures.
18. Report policy infractions.
19. Arrive on time for scheduled shifts.
20. Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
1. Minimum 1 year of cooking experience required.
2. Preferred experience in the retirement home industry.
3. Knowledge of food and catering trends, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.
4. Understanding of safe food handling and serving methods.
5. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
6. Effective communication skills.
7. Flexibility and interpersonal skills for a diverse environment.
8. Teamwork skills.
9. Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, email).
10. Attention to detail.
11. Excellent time management and multitasking skills.
12. Problem-solving skills.
13. Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
