We are now recruiting for Relief Residential Support Workers to join our team in Chesterberry Residential Care home in Erdington, to provide support and guidance in day-to-day life to Deaf people who may have other sensory impairments and learning disabilities, enabling residents to be as independent as they possibly can. You will work as part of a dedicated team assisting residents within the home by providing personal care and support, administer medication and carry out domestic tasks for the wellbeing of our resident.
This service operates 24 hours and 7 days a week, therefore you must be flexible and willing to work shifts, which are outlined in the rota including weekends and nights also to accompany on day trips, holidays and evening activities, to maintain the family / friend ethos in our home for life. To be successful for the post you will have experience working with sensory impaired people and able to communicate in BSL at Level 2.
You will be responsible for/carry out the following duties:
• Supporting resident’s with Personal Care
• Person centred support and ways of working
• Maintaining and updating records
• Supporting residents with daily activities – inhouse and in the community – including attending medical appointments
• Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with residents and their families
• To assist clients with personal care where required which may involve assistance with; continence requirements (bathing and showering)
• Preparation of meals and drinks
• Handling medication including administration of medicines
• Working inline and contribute to resident’s support plans, activity plans and risk assessments
Some of the key skills and experience required for this role are:
• Experience of working in residential care setting – minimum 1 yr
• NVQ 2/ Care certificate preferred
• An understanding of the needs of adults with learning disabilities and sensory impairment
• To be able to build and nurture good relationships with residents, staff, family and professionals
• A high level of communication skills (written and verbal) -BSL preferred
• A driving License and vehicle (this would be advantageous)
