As we expand our network, we are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to lead operations at our newly added Greenock Cruise Port. This pivotal role ensures the smooth running of port operations, focusing on logistics, safety, customer service, and stakeholder management. As Operations Manager, you'll lead the team to enhance operational efficiency, provide exceptional passenger experience, and maintain GPH’s high standards in port management.
Key Responsibilities:
Port Operations Management:
1. Oversee daily port operations, ensuring safe mooring, unmooring, and departure of cruise ships.
2. Coordinate logistics for efficient passenger movement and provision of ancillary services.
3. Collaborate with security, stevedoring, baggage handling, transport services, and excursion teams.
Stakeholder Management:
1. Foster and maintain relationships with cruise lines, port authorities, government bodies, contractors, and service providers.
2. Resolve operational issues and manage berthing inquiries and conflicts.
3. Ensure compliance with laws and statutory regulations by liaising with authorities (Border Force, Immigration, etc.).
Customer Service & Passenger Experience:
1. Ensure a positive and memorable experience for passengers from arrival to departure.
2. Oversee the operation of port facilities including waiting areas, security zones, and public spaces.
3. Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and comfort at the port.
Health & Safety:
1. Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and security regulations.
2. Develop and implement emergency plans and procedures.
3. Conduct safety inspections to ensure facilities meet regulatory standards.
Financial Management:
1. Manage port operation budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and revenue maximization.
2. Monitor financial performance and identify cost-saving opportunities.
3. Report financial data as per GPH’s guidelines.
Port Infrastructure & Maintenance:
1. Oversee maintenance and upgrades of port infrastructure, ensuring functionality and safety.
2. Work with engineers and contractors on repairs, expansions, or renovations.
3. Minimize disruptions to operations during maintenance or construction.
Marketing & Promotion:
1. Assist in the promotion and marketing of the port to attract cruise ships.
2. Collaborate with tourism boards, local businesses, and cruise lines to boost the port’s profile.
3. Organize promotional events and activities to enhance tourism.
Environmental Sustainability:
1. Promote sustainable practices, including waste management and pollution control.
2. Develop and implement green initiatives in collaboration with stakeholders and environmental organizations.
Qualifications:
1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, Maritime Studies, Logistics, Tourism, or related field is desirable. Certifications in port management or cruise operations are an advantage.
2. Experience: At least 5 years in port or cruise operations, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Skills:
1. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
2. In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in port environments.
3. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and port management software.
5. Experience managing budgets and financial reporting.
Working Conditions:
1. Based at Greenock Cruise Port with the possibility of long or unsociable hours, including weekends/bank holidays.
2. The role involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions and requires availability for emergencies during off-hours.
3. Potential travel for industry conferences and stakeholder meetings.
4. Agile and remote working is possible but must be coordinated around operational priorities.
5. Occasional travel to other GPH UK ports and meetings at Greenock or Liverpool HQ.
