Job Description
Focussed on the vessel electrical system, the Lead Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for the production of electrical drawing packages consisting of electrical schematics, panel designs and cable running schedules for the entire Oyster range. In addition, they will be a key player in product improvement, R&D and value engineering projects, ensuring current best practice is brought through into new designs and applied consistently to existing models.
This is a technical role rather than a management position requiring a tangible output in the form of accurate 2D CAD information for Oyster Production.
1. Taking the lead for the electrical Design Change Request (DCR) process for all boats within the Oyster range.
2. Oversee existing design standards for Oyster’s Electrical systems. Contribute to the ongoing drive for quality and consistency across the model range and manufacturing facilities.
3. Oversee the wider electrical design team and electrical production managers to achieve required deliverables and deadlines.
4. Manage design aspects of the external supply chain in conjunction with Client Managers and Oyster Procurement.
5. Maintain a close working relationship with Oyster Production including Electrical, Engineering and Joinery Departments. Organise work to provide deliverables to Production on time and in full in accordance with the Oyster Group Schedule.
6. Establish a clear and accurate scope of supply using the project’s Master Work List.
7. Attend development, production and project meetings as required to stay abreast of contract variations and production feedback. Provide timely data to inform these meetings and other management reports.
8. Maintain and manage resource within the electrical design team.
9. Check, update and issue accurate 2D Electrical schematic and panel drawings (AutoCAD).
10. Develop contract specific 2D CAD electrical information for production (AutoCAD).
11. Produce cable running schedules using knowledge of manufacturing processes and installation requirements.
Requirements
Knowledge
* In depth knowledge of marine AC and DC electrical systems, materials and techniques.
* Good knowledge of all phases of electrical installation relating to small craft production.
* A sound understanding of yacht systems including knowledge of component location and installation requirements.
Skills
* Computer literacy/aptitude using software such as: AutoCAD, Microsoft Office in particular Outlook, Excel and Word.
Experience
* Preferable experience with marine digital switching systems such as CZone.
* Preferable experience with marine lighting systems and system integration.
* Preferable experience in marine electrical and hybrid drive systems.
Qualifications
* A design related degree / qualification or equivalent electrical design experience.
* Qualified to 18th Edition IT wiring regulations.
* Preferable qualified as BMEA Marine Electrical Technician.
