You will join a busy team which carries out the full range of private sector housing work, including investigations into defective living conditions and public health nuisances; the application and enforcement of the HMO Licensing Policy; carrying out housing surveys using the housing health and safety rating system; producing reports of conditions found and initiating legal action as appropriate; liaising with landlords, owners, agents and tenants and advising on the appropriate requirements of housing and public health legislation.
Purpose of the Post
* Undertake duties associated with private sector housing compliance and enforcement including singly occupied and HMO properties.
* Carry out technical, legal and administrative duties in connection with Private Sector Housing and Environmental Health legislation.
* The post is generic within the Department and the post holder may work in any appropriate area within the Department and carry out any visits or inspections that fall within the remit of the Department.
The Post holder is responsible for the following
* Carrying out visits and inspections, taking action as required, to secure compliance with any relevant statutory provisions.
* Responding to a variety of service requests and demands within target.
* Preparing inspection reports and reports for senior officers and elected Members where required.
* Preparing evidence and attending court in respect of legal proceedings arising from any inspection, visit or action.
* Contributing to the corporate working of the Department through participation in working groups and other meetings as required.
* Meeting performance targets agreed with the Team Leader.
* Fully utilising the Department's computerised information database to record, monitor and manage workload.
* Contributing towards the development of the teamwork plan.
* Undertaking the personal health and safety responsibilities within the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and being responsible for colleagues' health safety and welfare.
* Assisting in the development of initiatives.
The post holder will be expected to
* Work in an agile manner spending time both at home and within the office environment particularly for work recording, team meetings and liaison with other officers.
* Visits to sites, premises and buildings in order to carry out inspections and visits.
