Job Title: SEN Teacher
We are looking for a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher to join our team at Oakham Shires School.
The successful candidate will have experience of closing the gaps for disadvantaged and SEND pupils, supporting autistic teenagers who have struggled throughout their school journey to achieve their academic and life goals.
Our class groups are small, allowing you to focus on each pupil's needs. All of our pupils are treated as individuals; one size does not fit all. We recognise this in our approach to learning by adapting our teaching to meet individual needs.
We are looking for staff with a knowledge and understanding of autism and developmental trauma, who can apply that knowledge in all dealings and interactions with the young people we support.
We use an 'in their own time and space' philosophy to support our pupils to navigate their lives. We focus on understanding behaviour for communication and use this to help support their social and emotional development.
We have a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.
We need teachers who have a passion for working with pupils, a compassionate, caring manner, and a mature, non-judgmental approach to life.
You will be a clear communicator and resilient.
About the role
* This is a permanent, term-time only contract.
* You will work 80% of your contractual hours for 100% of your pay, giving you more time to do the things that make you happy.
About the school
Oakham Shires School is an Independent Special School for 11-18 year olds who are Autistic and have associated diagnosis and special education needs.
The school delivers a specialist curriculum for pupils who have struggled to cope in a mainstream or larger SEN educational setting and are, as a result, working below age expected stage.
Pupils are taught in small class groups of 4 -5 with a high staff to pupil ratio. Pupils are supported to achieve their Outcomes within their Education Health Care Plan, develop life skills and achieve accreditations in Maths, English and Science.
We place the outcomes of the pupils and vulnerable young adults in our services at the heart of everything we do.
We offer a range of benefits including life assurance, pension scheme options, wellbeing support, and a flexible benefits platform.
