Join our dynamic Business Communications team at JSM, where we support the entire organisation, the communities we operate in, and our wider external stakeholders. As a Communications Specialist, you will play a key role in shaping how we communicate our values, projects, and impact across multiple platforms. You’ll be working closely with colleagues across all areas of the business to bring stories to life and build strong relationships with media, stakeholders, and the communities we serve.
SCOPE OF THE ROLE
As a Communications Specialist, you’ll be responsible for developing and delivering our external communications strategy to enhance JSM’s brand presence and reputation. From planning creative campaigns and managing media relations to driving ESG initiatives and community engagement, you’ll help us make a positive and lasting impression across all channels. This role requires confident, strategic thinking and the ability to execute campaigns that demonstrate clear ROI.
HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED
* Plan and execute multi-channel communications aligned with our business goals and communications plan.
* Create compelling content using digital tools and platforms that reflect our brand and SHEQ standards.
* Proactively source stories from across the business and select the right platforms for maximum impact.
* Work closely with the Communications Manager to maintain consistent messaging across internal and external comms.
* Manage media relations by cultivating strong connections with key journalists and analysts.
* Draft and distribute press releases, media briefings, and other external communication materials.
* Monitor media coverage, flagging opportunities for positive exposure, and managing any risks.
* Lead on digital content, website management, and ensure alignment with our branding and tone.
* Drive community and stakeholder engagement, including with local councils, MPs, and schools.
* Plan and support company events, press conferences, sponsorships, and strategic ESG initiatives.
* Track ESG performance and KPIs, reporting on impact and opportunities.
* Attend client meetings and project reviews to provide communications insights and updates.
* Represent the Business Communications team in bid submissions and presentations.
WHAT IT TAKES
* Proven experience in external communications, brand marketing, or media roles (minimum 2 years).
* Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
* Experience managing communications across multiple platforms (press, digital, social, events).
* Confidence in presenting to stakeholders and engaging with senior leaders.
* Experience in event planning and brand strategy with demonstrable ROI.
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud and video editing software.
* Comfortable with Microsoft Office and digital communication platforms.
* Strong understanding of ESG strategy, impact reporting, and community engagement.
* Creativity and the ability to turn abstract ideas into tangible content and campaigns.
* Experience working with European media, particularly in Germany, is highly desirable.
* Accredited member of CIPR, CIM, ACEJMC or a similar professional body.
