The Radiotherapy department of University Hospitals Leicester is excited to offer the opportunity for a Band 5 therapeutic radiographers to join our team. Year 3 students will be considered as will overseas candidates who have IELTS Level 7 or equivalent qualifications.
Being based at the Royal Infirmary site you will be within walking distance of the vibrant and historical city centre of Leicester.
Equipment includes, 3 Varian TrueBeam linacs, a 4th is being commissioned and a 5th Halcyon is due in the new year. We have the ARIA Oncology management system, Prosoma Virtual Simulation, Varian Eclipse treatment planning system, 1 Canon and 1 GE wide bore CT scanners, a XStrahl superficial unit and a Varian GammaMed brachytherapy unit in a brand-new brachytherapy suite.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills for the benefit of the LLR patient population and for those patients from further afield.
Key Responsibilities
You will be required to:
* Work as a member of a team in all areas of the department within a rota system, performing such duties as are required in the planning, pre-treatment, and treatment of patients.
* Comply with all Trust and Departmental Policies, procedures, and protocols, commenting and suggesting changes as necessary.
* Ensure a patient-centred approach to the radiotherapy service.
* Acknowledge and fulfil the requirements of your CPD.
Main Duties of the Job
* Work independently, or closely with the senior radiographers, to coordinate the efficient, accurate patient-focused planning and delivery of ionising radiation following evidence-based protocols.
* Assist in the development of protocols, documentation systems, standards, policies and clinical guidelines for use by the multi-disciplinary team.
* Participate in the organisation of the daily workload to optimise throughput of activity.
* Assist in the reassignment of activity in the event of breakdowns or unexpected events.
* Participate in service improvement projects including working with the multidisciplinary team.
* Assist in the delivery of training sessions including supporting staff to achieve clinical competency.
* Participate in presentations promoting knowledge and awareness of radiotherapy.

* Ensure the safe use of highly complex treatment machines costing in excess of £2 million.
* Ensure that the correct data is captured for every treatment delivered.
Staff
* Assist in the training of Radiographers, Radiotherapy Assistants, and Student Radiographers.
* Assess and mentor students.
* Manage own CPD.

* Comply with all Trust policies and procedures.
* Be aware and comply with the Local Rules of the Radiotherapy Department.
* Conform to the requirements of the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IRMER).

* Deliver complex information to patients and their families with empathy and tact.
* Promote effective communication amongst staff.
* Provide timely advice about treatment and side effects for patients, relatives, and carers.
* Be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team, providing high standards of care.
* Assess and recognise radiotherapy radiation-induced toxicity and cancer-related side effects during treatment.
Research
* Be aware of the research activities within the department.
* Participate in research projects within the department.
* Understand the relationship between the radiotherapy department and the Hope clinical trials unit.
Person Specification
* Evidence of HCPC registration as a therapeutic radiographer.
* Evidence of radiotherapy planning, scanning, and/or treating patients including IGRT/IMRT.
* Evidence of advanced treatments e.g. SABR.
* Evidence of managing own workload and tasks.
* Example given of demonstrating trust values and behaviours.
* Evidence of knowledge about IRR and IRMER.
* Therapeutic Radiography qualification taught in English/IELTS Level 7.
* Evidence of advanced communication training.
