The Ophthalmology Department at Singleton Hospital, Swansea is looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join their team to undertake a 12-month fixed term post as a Specialty Doctor to backfill a seconded colleague until March 2026.
This post will support various sub-specialty clinics in Singleton and Neath Port Talbot hospitals and potential cataract surgery. You will also participate in the service on call rota at Singleton Hospital.
Main duties of the job
You will provide a clinical service, with colleagues, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness.
The successful candidate will work together with the wider clinical team of Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Junior Doctors, and other Allied Health Professionals to provide high-quality, safe, and effective clinical care, working as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
Working with consultant colleagues and the multi-professional team, you will have continuing responsibility for the well-being of all patients under your care, allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff.
Although this post is not recognized for training, participation in educational programmes, audit, and research will be encouraged and supported. There is an active Multi Professional Education Centre, and Medical Staff are encouraged to use its facilities. There are also comprehensive Medical Libraries at all sites managed by Chartered Librarians.

* Full GMC/GDC Registration

* Part 1 of the FRCOphth or recognised equivalent; full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council; completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) including at least two years in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or equivalent experience and competencies.
