Kidderminster Treatment Centre provides accredited elective Day and Short Stay surgery across a range of specialities. We are pleased to offer a position for an enthusiastic and motivated Team Leader in our surgical team.
With four theatres, two treatment rooms, and a 6 bedded recovery area, we deliver a responsive service with dedicated theatre practitioners committed to high standards of care for all of our patients. You will be a:
* Registered Operating Department Practitioner with scrub and mentoring experience, recovery is also desirable.
* Registered Nurse with scrub and mentoring experience, recovery is also desirable.
You will be experienced in the scrub role, orthopaedic surgery being desirable, and you will be an organized individual with the ability to lead a team ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and care. You will monitor equipment and resources, ensuring cost effectiveness.
Excellent communication and flexibility and the support of learners are key, and you will hold, or be working towards an assessor/mentorship qualification. You will be motivated to improve and ensure standards with evidence-based practice.
You will deputise the Band 7 team, acting as role model and ambassador for our organisation.
Main Duties of the Job

Key Working Relationships

Risk Assessment
This post involves manual handling activities and a risk of exposure to bodily fluids and chemicals, will involve some computer screen work and individuals may be required to work under pressure in emergency situations.
Job Purpose

Key Duties
Management
1. To be actively involved in staff management issues within the team in support of the senior team leader, in addition to actively participating in the management of the theatre department as necessary.
2. To take all measures to ensure safety and report all accidents/incidents/near misses to the theatre coordinator or senior team leader.
3. To assist the theatre management team with risk management, participating in the identification of risks.
4. To participate in official investigations where required.
5. To have an understanding of the theatre budget, ensuring efficient and effective utilisation of resources.
6. To be conversant with trust policies, procedures and to participate in the development of policies/procedures where appropriate.
7. To assist with the monitoring of staff attendance, and taking a supporting role in the maintenance of day to day discipline within the team.
8. To inform the senior team leader / theatre matron of staff failing to meet the required standard of performance taking appropriate action where required.
9. To participate in the selection and recruitment of staff.
10. To undertake staff appraisals and to identify the training needs to develop staff and the service.
11. To facilitate a team and no blame culture that allows staff to learn and develop.
12. To assist and participate in the induction programme for newly appointed staff.
13. To be responsible for the equipment in own work area, ensuring that it is used safely and effectively, kept in working order and properly maintained.
Education and Training
1. Participate in the supervision, teaching and appropriate assessment of junior and new staff within the department.
2. Act as a mentor to newly qualified/newly appointed staff.
3. Contribute to the development of training programmes in accordance with identified needs in the department and in conjunction with other team members and the education facilitator for theatres.
4. Provide feedback from in-house/external training courses in order to disseminate knowledge.
5. To undertake/participate in research and development to ensure good clinical practice.

1. To maintain an environment conducive to the training/development needs of individuals and, support staff to develop clinical and managerial skills.

Standard Clauses
The purpose of this post should remain constant, but the duties and responsibilities may vary over time within the overall role and level of the post.
