Designated Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead Location: Royston, Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire border Contract: Full-time, Permanent (40 hours per week) Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum Simply Education is partnering with a SEND school to find a dedicated Designated Safeguarding and Pastoral Lead to oversee safeguarding and pastoral care for students aged 6-30 with complex learning difficulties. The students have a range of needs, including autism, profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), severe communication difficulties, and physical disabilities, often accompanied by medical conditions. In this role, you'll handle safeguarding referrals, ensure policies are followed, and promote a culture of safety and well-being. You'll collaborate with students, their families, staff, and external agencies to achieve the best outcomes for young people who need it most. What You'll Do: Safeguarding and Oversight Oversee all safeguarding matters, managing referrals, investigations, and ensuring compliance with policies. Supervise the deputy safeguarding staff and behaviour support personnel. Maintain up-to-date safeguarding policies and ensure their proper implementation. Coordinate with external agencies and attend safeguarding meetings. Pastoral Care & Behaviour Management Develop and implement tailored strategies to assist students with autism, PMLD, and other complex needs. Oversee behaviour management, ensuring staff are trained in effective intervention strategies. Monitor attendance, personal development, and well-being of students. Training & Development Organise CPD initiatives and provide training on safeguarding and behaviour management. Guide new staff during their induction and support their professional growth. Offer training on behaviour management strategies. Monitoring & Reporting Track and assess behaviour data, safeguarding concerns, and student welfare outcomes. Provide updates and reports to the leadership and governance teams. Ensure compliance with Ofsted and CQC standards. What We're Looking For: Essential: GCSEs (or equivalent) in English & Maths DSL Training Level 3 Experience in a residential care or education setting Experience with implementing safeguarding policies and pastoral interventions Strong communication, team management, and conflict resolution skills Desirable: Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or a related field Experience assisting students with autism, severe learning difficulties, PMLD, or communication challenges Familiarity with ASD interventions (like TEACCH, Attention Autism) Knowledge of Ofsted and CQC inspections Additional Requirements: Resilience and physical fitness to engage in all service activities, including physical intervention when necessary. A strong focus on professional development, equality, diversity, and adherence to safeguarding policies.
