The Role
The Test Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of software and system testing within the organisation, ensuring that solutions meet business needs and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in the insurance industry and will possess excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Key Accountabilities
1. Develop and implement detailed test strategies, plans, and scripts to ensure robust testing of project deliverables including software applications, systems, and integrations.
2. Collaborate with business stakeholders and Project teams to define testing requirements and ensure test strategies align with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
3. Ensure sufficient test coverage to mitigate risks associated with deployments.
Test Execution:
1. Manage the full test lifecycle for all projects, including functional, non-functional, performance, regression, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
2. Oversee the preparation and execution of test cases, test environments, and test data.
3. Ensure timely delivery of testing outcomes, managing defect tracking, reporting, and resolution processes.
Team Management:
1. Lead and mentor a team of testers, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance skills and performance.
2. Manage resource allocation, ensuring appropriate testing coverage across multiple projects.
3. Drive continuous improvement and best practices within the testing team.
Stakeholder Management:
1. Work closely with project managers, developers, business analysts, and external vendors to ensure testing outcomes meet business requirements.
2. Act as the main point of contact between the testing team and key stakeholders, providing regular updates on test progress, risks, and results.
3. Ensure stakeholder expectations are effectively managed, and deliverables are met on time.
4. Ensure all testing processes comply with relevant regulatory and industry standards.
5. Identify and mitigate risks associated with software releases through rigorous testing.
6. Provide recommendations for enhancing risk management and business continuity related to IT systems.
Skills & Experience
1. Insurance Experience: Strong understanding of the London Insurance Market and relevant industry regulations. Experience working with Lloyd's of London, Syndicates, or Brokers is highly desirable.
2. Testing Expertise: At least 5-7 years' experience in software testing, with a minimum of 3 years in a Test Manager role.
3. Leadership & Team Management: Proven experience in managing test teams, including setting objectives, performance management, and skills development.
4. Project Management: Experience managing testing within Agile and Waterfall environments, with familiarity in project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, HP ALM).
5. Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Strong communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
6. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail, able to identify issues and propose actionable solutions.
7. Risk & Compliance Awareness: Good understanding of compliance and risk management within the insurance or financial services sector, including GDPR and Solvency II.
8. Certifications: ISTQB/ISEB Certification in Software Testing, or other relevant qualifications.
9. Technical Skills: Experience in test automation frameworks and tools, API testing, and performance testing.
10. Change Management: Experience in managing test efforts through digital transformation and change management programmes.
