Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The junior doctors working in the obstetrics and gynaecology service are on 3 rotas as follows:
1. ST6/7 rota (1 in 8 rota)
o 4 deanery trainees
o 1 subspecialty trainee in feto-maternal medicine
o 3 clinical fellows
2. ST3-5 rota (1 in 8 rota)
o 5 deanery trainees
o 1 clinical fellow
o 2 AGU/DAU fellows contribute to ST3-5 rota
3. The Acute Gynaecology rota (1 in 8)
o 4 Acute Gynaecology Fellow
o 2 Day Assessment/ Fetal Medicine Unit
o 1 colposcopy fellow
o 1 oncology fellow
In addition, there are 4 clinical fellows at equivalent to ST1/2 grade provide weekday cover (0800-2000) and 1 in 4 weekend cover (0800-1600).

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
* Full GMC registration
* MRCOG part 2
* Training in obstetrics and gynaecology of 5 years at SpR grade or equivalent
Desirable criteria
* Higher degree PhD/MD
Experience
Essential criteria
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for ST6-7 level
* Experience in delivering care in a high risk delivery suite
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Desirable criteria
* Demonstrate a range of ideas for further research within specialist areas
* Evidence of developing evidence based services in obstetrics eg audit, guidelines or service development.
Skills
Essential criteria
* Able to function at ST6-7 level on delivery suite
* Able to perform acute gynaecology procedures (diagnostic laparoscopy, laparoscopic salpingectomy, SSM)
Desirable criteria
* Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience.
Other
Essential criteria
* Organisational and IT skills
* Ability to work in a team
* Able to demonstrate leadership skills
* Good interpersonal skills and a caring attitude to patients
* Commitment to continuing medical education
Desirable criteria
* An awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses.
