Hiring Now: Transport & Installation Lead Engineer, Middlesbrough
Our client is a leading Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractor within the marine and renewable energy engineering sector.
Due to sector growth, they are looking to add an experienced Transport & Installation Lead Engineer to their team in Middlesbrough.
As a Transport & Installation Lead Engineer, you will be involved in offshore wind projects focusing on the transport, lifting, and installation of wind turbines and their foundations. Projects vary in size, but typically you will be working on projects for a year before installation works commence. You will also be involved in Operation and Maintenance campaigns for existing wind farms.
Your responsibilities as a Transport & Installation Lead Engineer:
1. Being part of the transport and installation knowledge centre of the energy division.
2. Developing installation procedures for offshore wind projects including selection of suitable vessels, developing positioning plans for these vessels, and selecting the required equipment and tools.
3. Developing concept and detailed lifting arrangements, deck layouts, and sea-fastenings.
4. Reviewing and organizing review of internal and external deliverables (structural designs/drawings, reports, etc.).
5. Responsible for the timely delivery of assigned deliverables against the tender/project schedule, within budget and to the required quality level.
6. Preparing for, managing, and coordinating engineering subcontractor scope of works.
7. Performing engineering, technical preparation, and execution support of offshore wind projects.
8. Assisting projects in dealing with unexpected circumstances during execution (troubleshooting).
9. Understanding and advising on how to manage project risks and its implications on programme, budget, and quality.
10. Feeding lessons learned back into the Foundation Unit knowledge centre and contributing to continuous improvement.
The ideal background of a Transport & Installation Lead Engineer:
1. A Civil / Mechanical / Offshore Engineering degree, or equivalent.
2. Strong analytical, practical, and pragmatic skills to solve complex problems.
3. Experience of Installation engineering e.g. deck layout, lift & rigging plans, operational procedures.
4. The ability to perform and review rigging design and crane lifting studies.
5. The ability to perform and review seafastening/grillage designs of all components during the transportation phase.
6. The ability to offer technical support and advice during the project execution phase.
7. Knowledge of 3D / FEA software, i.e. Inventor and Ansys.
8. Supervisory and coaching skills to develop the (junior) installation engineers in our department.
