Director of Software Engineering Retail Division Permanent Role £120,000 Base Salary Benefits Hybrid - Manchester Our client, a global enterprise business operating across the UK and US, is seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead a large-scale engineering team within their retail division. This is a permanent opportunity, offering a £120,000 base salary plus a comprehensive benefits package. You will play a pivotal role in driving the delivery of cutting-edge digital products, with a focus on cloud-based solutions and modern engineering practices. The Role: In this role, you will define and execute the long-term engineering strategy for the retail division, overseeing a team of around 100 engineers. Working closely with senior leadership, you will be responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance software solutions, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Key responsibilities include leading the engineering team, aligning resources with business objectives, and driving DevOps and Agile transformations. You will also be responsible for optimising the technical landscape, managing technical debt, and ensuring effective collaboration between development, operations, and product teams to deliver a seamless customer experience. Key Responsibilities: Define and lead the software engineering strategy for the retail division, aligned with business objectives. Drive Agile and DevOps culture across the engineering teams, ensuring high-quality software delivery. Oversee the software development lifecycle, from design to live support, with a strong focus on cloud architectures. Implement modern cloud-based solutions using AWS or Azure that are scalable and reliable. Foster a collaborative engineering culture focused on continuous improvement, technical excellence, and innovation. Provide leadership and mentoring to the engineering team, ensuring best practices are followed and risks are mitigated. Collaborate with senior stakeholders across product, architecture, and service teams to ensure alignment and successful delivery of the roadmap. Skills & Experience Required: Proven experience in leading large-scale software engineering teams in high-demand environments. Strong background in software development, with expertise in .NET, Node.js, and cloud architectures ( AWS or Azure ). Deep understanding of Agile, DevOps, and modern software delivery methodologies. Experience with CI/CD practices, and cloud-native technologies. Excellent leadership and communication skills, able to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
