Background: Bradford District and Craven Mind (BDC Mind) is a thriving independent mental health organisation, making a positive difference to the mental health and wellbeing of people of all-ages living in Bradford district and Craven. In January 2024, BDC Mind and Staying Put won a joint bid to deliver mental health services to ethnically and culturally diverse communities (ECDC) in Bradford District and Craven. To ensure the services were culturally appropriate the first year has been spent researching, collaborating and listening to the needs of the communities we serve. From April 2025, the Hope and Light programme of culturally responsive mental health services will be available for people from South Asian, Black African, Black Caribbean, and Central and Eastern European communities. We’re looking for a passionate and dynamic Communications and Engagement Lead to drive awareness of the programme, build trust and engage the communities the programme serves. Ensuring the Hope and Light brand and messaging is inclusive, culturally responsive, and community-driven. Purpose: Reporting to the Programme Director, the Service Manager will play a pivotal role in leading the effective delivery and continuous development of the Hope and Light programme. This leadership role requires vision, innovation, and a commitment to equity in mental health services. The postholder will lead and support a team of Community Engagement Workers embedded within grassroots organisations, ensuring they deliver high-quality, community-led interventions. They will work closely with partner organisations to enhance culturally responsive mental health support, improve access, and reduce inequalities. Additionally, they will advocate for systemic change by amplifying community voices, challenging stigma, and influencing policy and practice. Our ideal candidate will have leadership and management experience and will be able to develop and maintain positive relationships at all levels. We are looking for someone who is focused on service expansion, improvement, quality and safety. They will be able to show that they have a good knowledge of health inequalities and the impact these have on people with mental health challenges. Key duties: Lead, support, and develop a team of Community Engagement Workers, ensuring high-quality, culturally responsive mental health support is delivered across grassroots organisations. Strengthen partnerships with grassroots and provider organisations, fostering collaboration to enhance access, reduce stigma, and improve service delivery for ethnically and culturally diverse communities. Ensuring strategic alignment with the programme’s mission and goals, keeping the team focused on delivering measurable outcomes that improve mental health access and reduce inequalities. Oversee service monitoring and evaluation, collecting and analysing data to assess impact, inform decision-making, and drive continuous improvement in mental health provision. Advocate for systemic change by representing the programme at strategic meetings, forums, and events, influencing policy and amplifying community voices. Represent the programme at local events, forums, and strategic meetings to amplify community voices. Ensure compliance with organisational policies and procedures, embedding best practices in safeguarding, health and safety, and equality, diversity, and inclusion. Lead service development and innovation, identifying opportunities for improvement, expansion, and best practice implementation to enhance the programme’s effectiveness. Person specification Qualifications Essential A-levels or a similar qualification in health, community work, or social care. Experience Essential Experience of working with both adults and children and young people. Proven experience in leading, developing, and supporting a team, preferably within a mental health, community engagement, or voluntary sector setting. Experience of community engagement. Evidence of working with people who have or have had mental health challenges in a one-to-one and group setting. Personal or professional experience of mental health challenges and an understanding of their impact on diverse communities. Desirable Evidence of ongoing professional development. Social/Youth work and/or a mental health qualification and/or community development. Skills and Abilities Essential Project/programme management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Be proactive and act on own initiative, while also being a team player.
