Job overview We are looking to appoint to a Whole-Time (10 PA) Consultant in Spinal Injuries Rehabilitation to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust based at the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre, Northern General Hospital. We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers. Main duties of the job The appointee will be responsible for the provision of acute management and long-term follow-up of patients admitted to the Centre. They will share equitable responsibilities with his professional colleagues and will actively contribute to the governance arrangements of the Department. The appointee will be expected to conduct multi-disciplinary ward rounds, goal planning and to see out-patients. They will be expected to participate in research and teaching as well as participating in a 1 in 6 on-call rota. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. • Substantial experience in Rehabilitation Medicine preferably with spinal injuries as a major component, or equivalent Desirable criteria • MD or PhD or equivalent • Experience in procedural skills and management of acute spinal cord injury. Clinical experience Essential criteria • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in spinal injuries. • Capable of providing comprehensive care to acutely injured patient with spinal cord injury Desirable criteria • Possess broad clinical experience in the field of specialised rehabilitation • Expertise in managing pressure sores and spasticity • Experience of working in trauma settings/ with spinal surgical teams managing acute spinal cord injury Research Essential criteria • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate Desirable criteria • Publications in Peer reviewed journals; GCP training.
