We are looking for a Senior Pharmacy Assistant to provide Pharmacy support duties to wards and Theatres at Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre (ESEOC), Colchester Hospital.
You will work independently to manage Pharmacy in top up areas and but work closely with the ESEOC team when complex issues arise. For this role you will need to have a NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Services Assistant or equivalent or working towards this.
You will manage the supply of medicines and other critical pharmacy supplied consumables to ESEOC theatres and ward areas, ensuring top-up services to these areas supply stock to required levels, pre-emptively and reactively working with the Clinical Lead Pharmacist for ESEOC, Logistics team and ESOEC ward and Theatres staff to manage Short-falls or changes in Drugs and consumables. In this role you will undertake duties supporting the ESEOC Lead Pharmacist and Specialist Clinical Pharmacy Technicians in ESEOC wards and theatres such as undertaking audits or data collection.
You will assist the Pharmacy Supply Team Leader to ensure that senior support is available and cover where appropriate if ESEOC workload permits.
Details about our pharmacy service -
• To maintain adequate stock levels by ordering, picking, delivering and unpacking stock medicines to ESEOC.
• To identify and remove in-date drugs which are no longer required from ESEOC wards and theatres following the Pharmacy procedure for 'returns'.
• To maintain record of drugs "borrowed' from ESEOC wards and ensure wards are debited/credited appropriately.
• To be proactive and reactive to emergency needs of the ward and clinical areas including organising the delivery of critical medication for stock or one stop dispensing.
• To distribute out of stock reports to Pharmacy link personnel in theatres and ensure drugs on "to follows" are on order by liaison with Pharmacy procurement staff.
• Inform specialist pharmacist promptly if supply problems are identified.
• To work closely with the ESEOC team in undertaking data collection for clinical audits.
• To deliver Controlled drugs to the ESEOC wards and Theatres
• To co-ordinate with the top up team to ensure an efficient service is arranged in times of own absence and statutory bank holidays by planning a top-up rota for distribution and ESEOC wards and theatre staff to refer to.
