Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Main Duties of the Job
The surgical preassessment department is a nurse-led outpatient clinic responsible for the pre-operative management, optimisation, and preparation of elective surgical patients under the care of 8 different surgical specialities. The main aim is to ensure patients are fit to proceed with a general anaesthetic.
We are seeking an experienced nurse who is highly motivated and professional to join our team of Nurse Practitioners. You will commence a comprehensive training and development pathway which we anticipate to be completed in 3 months.
Working for Our Organisation
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.
All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on-site and remote working. Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees can access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
Due to the nature of this role and service, this role is on-site, and the hours are as advertised.
Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
This would be an ideal opportunity for an ambitious nurse to gain valuable experience in patient history taking and physical assessment, and with support, learn the skills to work as an autonomous practitioner within the nurse-led clinic.
We provide a Monday - Friday Service with occasional Saturday working; this is additional hours via NHSP.
You will be given nurse practitioner training including the in-house History Taking and Physical Assessment course (please be aware this job does NOT provide a full ACP masters pathway).
Once you have completed your competencies, you will perform a mixture of face-to-face and telephone assessments of patients who are due to have elective surgery, ensuring they are safe to proceed and optimised prior to surgery.
