The Leicester Children's Hospital Paediatric Surgery Team have a vacancy for two Senior Resident Doctors to start as soon as possible. This is an exciting opportunity for a doctor with experience of working at a registrar level in paediatric surgery to join the team. This post has been developed in order to support the continued delivery of high-quality care to children across the Leicester Children's Hospital. The successful candidates will join our team of paediatric surgeons and paediatricians and provide a wide range of clinical services across the spectrum of paediatric surgery and urology.
Main duties of the job
The post holders will participate in managing the care of paediatric surgical patients at registrar level. He/she will be expected to perform clinical and non-invasive assessment of paediatric patients within an acute environment, and will be fully involved in the surgical management of patients including working in theatre, with their supervising Consultant and where appropriate independently. Responsibilities include the day-to-day running of the paediatric surgical wards, planning and implementing clinical management plans under the supervision of the consultant staff, and presenting cases at departmental MDT meetings.
Job responsibilities
The Paediatrics surgery specialty serves the population of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, as one of the busiest Acute and General Paediatric centres in the UK. Our Children's Assessment Unit (CAU) currently sees around 14,000 children a year, in addition to the children who attend our Paediatric Emergency Department (PED). The specialty also provides tertiary level care to children and young people from across the region including areas of Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. Outreach clinics and day case operating take place in a number of centres outside of UHL.

Training & Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
* Working towards MRCP (UK).
Experience
* Minimum of 1 year experience.
* Previous experience of general or specialist conditions and paediatrics.

* Potential to cope with stressful situations possessing excellent communication skills and the ability to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team.
Research
* An understanding of and commitment to research and evidence-based practice in all aspects of medical care.
* Practical experience of participation in research projects.

* Commitment to an understanding of the principles of audit.
* Practical experience of participation in clinical audit projects.
Planning & Organisational Skills
* Ability to manage own time and work effectively, with good understanding of role.
* Must possess a high degree of motivation and personal self-discipline.
Physical skills
* Regular participation in the On-Call Rota.
