Purpose of the Role
The Head of Global Compliance is responsible for developing and overseeing the company’s compliance, governance, and risk management framework across multiple jurisdictions.
Operating in the business services, this role ensures compliance with UK and international regulations, including health and safety (HSE), environmental regulations, data protection (UK GDPR), anti-bribery (Bribery Act 2010), employment laws, and supply chain compliance.
The role also ensures ethical business practices, enhances corporate governance, and mitigates legal and operational risks.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Global Compliance Strategy & Governance. Develop and implement a comprehensive global compliance program tailored to business services.
* Ensure compliance with UK regulations (HSE, UK GDPR, Bribery Act 2010, Modern Slavery Act, TUPE, HMRC tax laws) and global regulatory requirements.
* Act as the key liaison with regulatory authorities, including the HSE, ICO, HMRC, and UK government agencies.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance. Ensure company-wide adherence to health, safety, and environmental laws in all operational locations:
* Implement robust HSE compliance programs to align with ISO 45001 (occupational health & safety) and ISO 14001 (environmental management).
* Conduct compliance audits and risk assessments to prevent workplace incidents and regulatory breaches.
Risk Management & Internal Controls. Identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks, including legal, financial, and reputational risks:
* Oversee internal audits, investigations, and whistleblowing processes.
* Implement anti-bribery, anti-fraud, and corruption controls in line with Bribery Act 2010 and international anti-corruption laws.
* Ensure supply chain compliance, including modern slavery and ethical sourcing policies.
Policy Development & Regulatory Compliance:
* Develop and enforce compliance policies, covering data protection, financial crime, employment law, ethical business conduct, and contractual obligations.
* Ensure the company meets data privacy regulations (UK GDPR, EU GDPR, cybersecurity laws) and implements best practices for handling client and employee data.
* Support & involvement in global mobilisation to ensure consistency.
* Compliance support into UK led global tenders.
* Review own and update the QMS, OHS and Environmental Management system, including Legal, Risk and Aspects and Impacts registers aligned to ISO standards.
Support UK Teams with all contractor systems, e.g., Safe Contractor/Avetta.
Training, Awareness & Culture:
* Design and implement compliance training programs for employees, contractors, and senior management.
* Foster a compliance-first culture across all business units and operational sites.
* Oversee whistleblowing mechanisms to ensure employees can report concerns safely.
International Compliance & Supply Chain Due Diligence:
* Ensure compliance with international regulations in global operations, partnerships, and supply chain management.
* Oversee due diligence for third-party vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to mitigate risks related to modern slavery, human rights violations, and unethical practices.
* Manage cross-border legal risks, particularly in outsourcing, procurement, and facilities contracts.
Minimum Qualifications:
* 10+ years of compliance, legal, or risk management experience, ideally in business services, facilities management, or outsourcing sectors.
* Strong knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks (HSE, UK GDPR, Bribery Act 2010, Modern Slavery Act, TUPE, tax compliance).
* Proven leadership experience managing global compliance teams and multi-jurisdictional regulations.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging regulators, clients, and board-level executives.
* Strong understanding of ISO standards (ISO9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001) and international corporate governance best practices.
Preferred:
* Professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent compliance qualifications).
* Experience in facilities management, outsourcing, infrastructure, or business services sectors.
* Background in managing compliance for large-scale contracts, government tenders, or multinational operations.
