About Us
The City of London Corporation manages 11,000 acres (approximately 4,500 hectares) of land in and around London that is enjoyed by over 16 million visitors annually. Whilst there are small pockets of open space within the Square Mile, the majority can be found elsewhere in London and the surrounding counties. The City Corporation acts as Trustee of 10 charities which, through their various objects, are responsible for the preservation in perpetuity of a large proportion of these award-winning open spaces.
The role
Reporting to conservation manager, The Senior Ranger (Waste) will support, manage and be physically involved in manual work and routinely drive a range of vehicles, (including a refuse collection vehicle) whilst supervising a small Waste and Recycling Team based at North London Open Spaces. This team plays a critical frontline role, providing a clean and safe environment, ensuring a welcoming customer experience to all users, whilst meeting statutory requirements in terms of the Environment Protection Act 1990. In addition, they will play critical part in maintaining the high standards required for the Green Flag award and other nationally recognised standards. The Senior Ranger (Waste) will work collaboratively with other existing teams in keeping our parks clean and safe, including waste generated by events.
You will be responsible for supporting recycling and waste reduction initiatives whilst ensuring compliance is maintained with health and safety, waste and recycling legislation, vehicle and driver regulations and administrative record keeping. The role will also involve the collation of data for reports whilst also ensuring that all staff are compliant with routine health checks and driver compliance.
The ideal Candidate
You will need to be physically fit and willing to undertake a range of manual tasks working with a diverse range of waste streams. Have experience managing a team, including proven leadership ability whilst also being content to lone work. You will need a full clean driving licence and hold a tractor driving qualification. You will need a good understanding of Health & Safety relevant to the working environment. You will have demonstrable experience working in a fast-paced open spaces environment, have good communication skills, can follow company policies and procedures, and the ability to provide accurate updates to your line manager, both written and verbal. You will need to display your initiative and work well in a team. You will be required to be flexible, calm under pressure and have a can-do approach to working outdoors in all weathers.??
* You must hold a full driving license, that includes the ability to drive a 7.5tonne vehicle.
* Hold a Certificate of Professional Driver Competence (CPC card).
* Have an accredited certification in the safe use of tractors.
* Have GCSE level English and Maths or an equivalent qualification.
