Job summary
The Teenage Cancer Trust Unit (TCTU) is a 9 bedded ward, set within the Oak Centre for Children and Young People, at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton. We are one of the largest Children's Cancer Centres in Europe, offering comprehensive and cutting-edge treatment. The Royal Marsden has one of the largest UK Bone Marrow Transplant Units, the largest Paediatric Inpatient Drug Development Programme in the UK and is recognised as a world leader in the field. On the TCTU, we care for a wide range of Haematology and Oncology Cancers, including Bone Marrow Transplants.

If you are new to Cancer, our programmes such as 'Nurses New to Cancer Care', 'Cytotoxic Administration' and 'Foundation Oncology Skills' will help build on the experience you have already gained in your nursing career to date.
Main duties of the job
1. Counterchecking patients' vital signs, blood results, patient body surface area, chemotherapy prescription and consent before administration of treatment.
2. Educating patients on their treatment such as indications and side effects.
3. Ensuring necessary medication and follow up appointments are obtained.

4. To coordinate and supervise a shift, communicating effectively with members of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality, evidence-led care to patients.
5. To exercise clinical judgment and decision making about patient needs in terms of long term goals or plans.
6. To participate fully in the day to day organization and running of clinical trials including the recruitment, education and monitoring of patients entering a clinical trial and liaison as required with trial sponsors.
