Scenic Lead
Position Purpose:
The Scenic Lead operates within a diverse team of Artists and Craftsmen/women, in multiple fields such as carpentry, scenic painting, sculpting, soft goods and installation. They execute the build of full-scale scenery, as specified by a production designer or art director, working in collaboration with the allocated project manager. This may involve entire projects or elements within a specific project.
The role provides senior level artistic knowledge to the team and participates in design reviews to facilitate efficiency once projects are in production.
Essential Duties:
1. Complete work allocated to the team and report on progress.
2. Maintain delivery of quality projects to scheduled department delivery dates.
3. Artistically create products using tools/equipment according to specifications in the arts and crafts environment.
4. Provide hands-on input of skillset/experience on projects/tasks within the workshop environment.
5. Collaborate with other departments to resolve problems.
6. Participate in design reviews to provide constructive feedback and expertise.
7. Lead the team to execute projects in line with production estimates.
8. Ensure that the working environment is safe, and housekeeping is to a high standard.
9. Motivate team members and create effective working relationships.
10. Support the project and estimation team to develop robust bids when required.
11. Provide feedback on team performance/issues to the manufacturing manager.
Key Responsibilities/Decision Making Authority:
1. Read, interpret, and follow designers’ drawings and ensure implementation according to the details.
2. Engage in root cause analysis and resolve problems.
3. Liaise with other departments to ensure efficient project delivery.
4. Participate and give input in the creation and signing off production estimates.
5. Ensure team productivity level is achieved daily.
6. Feedback progress of team performance daily.
7. Identify and deploy skillset needed within the team to deliver projects.
8. Provide feedback on team and individual performance.
9. Report all team disciplinary/standard issues to the Manufacturing Manager.
10. Work to process, incorporating SSOW’s/Quality standards.
11. Periodically check all equipment is maintained to high standards and report issues.
12. Evaluate materials/parts before activities are carried out and ensure completion of assemblies conform to quality checks. Report via NCR if any issues.
13. Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
14. Comply with clock procedures to align with company processes.
15. Be flexible to perform duties throughout other departments.
16. Engage in personal development programs/training.
17. Operate within individual and team environments, maintaining work ethics individually and alongside other team members.
18. Maintain communication with the line manager and colleagues.
Foundation/Position Requirements:
1. Technical expertise, qualifications, certifications, and work experience in a relevant field.
2. Directly related experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved within a creative department.
3. Ability to work in a productive team environment.
4. Ability to build effective and clear communication with management.
5. Ability to learn and transfer solid product knowledge.
6. Complete all relevant department certification, including Manual Handling.
7. Able to work within company Health & Safety guidelines.
8. Ability to read CAD drawings and measure from a scale model.
