Job summary We have an exciting opportunity for two Clinical Teaching Fellows (CT1/2 level) in General Surgery at Somerset Foundation Trust, based at the site location of Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. These job roles are fixed term for 12 months from 6th August 2025 to 4th August 2026. Our Trust is part of the Severn Deanery Surgical Rotation. This is a combined clinical and teaching post, ideally suited to an individual who has completed an F2 year or equivalent, and wishes to gain formal experience in undergraduate teaching and Surgery prior to commencing Core Training. On average, half of the working week will be clinical and the other half devoted to teaching Bristol medical students. The post holder will be encouraged to embark on a course leading to a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, which will be funded by the Academy. The clinical half of the post will be based in the surgical unit with a shared contribution to 6 months Colorectal and 6 months Vascular Surgery with on call on the 11 person CT on-call rota (covering general surgery, vascular surgery and urology). The successful candidate will gain experience in all aspects of surgery and encouraged to keep an up-to-date portfolio for CT applications. Interview practice and help with the portfolio is available, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to take part in surgical audit and other projects. Clinical teaching fellows (CTFs) deliver core curriculum content, act as tutors and are involved with the assessment of medical students.
