The role
As a Design Authority, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you'll support the provision of new facilities and capabilities, as well as the operation of those already existing.
Day-to-day, you'll manage the Design Authority team (eight direct reports) in support of the provision of a new out of water submarine maintenance facility.
* Definition of the design intent and provision of the basis of design.
* Oversight and acceptance of design and safety artefacts and configuration to form the reference design.
* Approval for manufacture, build, installation, commissioning, operation (including concessions), maintenance, modification and decommissioning of facilities, assets and operations, including the provision of the basis of operations.
* Principal Designer for Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and Building Safety Act purposes.
This role is full time, 35-hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days (ideally more) in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Design Authority
* Significant experience in design management within large scale multidisciplinary projects.
* Experience in the civil or military UK nuclear industry is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of submarines or dockyard experience is desirable.
Qualifications for the Design Authority
* Educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline and have significant relevant knowledge and experience; you'll also be registered as a Chartered Engineer, and likely a Fellow of your institute.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
