Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist
Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust
It has never been a more exciting time to join the NHS if you are interested in working with children and young people with Cerebral Palsy with the launch of CPIPS for Upper-limb surveillance.
Although based in East Sussex, we are employed by KCHFT, which is an outstanding trust. We believe that the best health care is delivered by multi-disciplinary teams working together and in partnership with other teams to provide seamless care.
We are currently seeking a B6 Occupational Therapist with a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience in paediatrics with an interest in early intervention (particularly for children under 2 years) to run joint clinics with Physiotherapy colleagues.
The post-holder will also run upper-limb/splint clinics for children who are school-age up to 18. While it would be an advantage to have experience of splinting, this is not essential as training will be provided.
The post-holder will need to have knowledge of Cerebral Palsy and emerging neurology and be open to training others and committed to multidisciplinary team-working.
The Integrated Care Team includes Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Integrated Therapy Assistants, and Apprentices.
The successful post-holder will work closely with B7 colleagues, Team Coordinator, and Professional Lead OT to deliver high quality care with evidence-based practice, aspirational outcomes, and child/parent engagement at the centre.
Main duties of the job
1. To provide a specialist therapy service to children aged 0-19 as part of an East Sussex Children's Integrated Therapy Service, provided by Kent Community Health Foundation Trust (KCHFT).
2. The post-holder will be part of a team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Assistants that covers early years and school years children with learning disability and complex/multi-disciplinary needs.
3. The role will include developing early intervention clinics with physiotherapy colleagues, upper-limb interventions including splinting and CPIPS.
4. To be responsible for managing a complex and specialist clinical caseload.
5. To provide a high quality and cost-effective clinical service to disabled children/young people and their families in collaboration with the Locality team, Professional Leads, and Locality Clinical Managers.
6. To be responsible for the appraisal and line supervision of Band 5 staff and/or Assistants/Key Workers within the team in collaboration with Professional Leads and Locality Clinical Manager as appropriate.
7. To be responsible for delivering specialist assessment and intervention to an identified specialist caseload of children with a range of neurological, developmental, and learning disabilities.
8. To provide support and advice to the child/young person, their family, and other agencies involved in their care.
