Are you ready to embark on a challenging and rewarding career monitoring compliance and enforcing planning controls imposed on development? Would you like to be supported by a specialist training program that will equip you with the skills you need, supported by an attractive salary, benefits, and prospects for progression? If so, we think we might be the right employer for you.
About the role
There are many local authorities and councils in the UK that grant planning permissions. Lincolnshire County Council has granted planning permission for approximately 300 mineral and waste sites. These include quarries, oil well sites, landfills, anaerobic digesters, waste transfer stations, and waste recycling facilities. All of these are subject to conditions to make them acceptable in the places where they are located. This job is about you visiting those sites and ensuring they are operating in accordance with those conditions. You will write reports of your findings which may result in the authority taking enforcement action or prosecutions. You will also investigate mineral and waste operations that are carried out without any planning permission or are being carried out in breach of their conditions.
Working within our dedicated Planning Enforcement Team and alongside our experienced planning officers, you'll engage with site operators, landowners, the public, and other bodies such as the Environment Agency and other local councils. You will have discretion to develop your negotiation skills to negotiate compliance with planning conditions and advise what needs to be done if planning permission is needed.
About You
Along with your legal or planning background, you'll need to be a skilled negotiator and communicator, both written and verbal. At times you will need to think 'outside' the box to achieve desired outcomes, someone who can build productive working relationships with our landowners, site operators, and the public.
The role has flexible working patterns split between home, site, and office. Tuesdays are office days when the Place Team are all required to be in the Lincoln office. On occasion, additional days may be required.
Please note this role requires you to be mobile throughout an operational area, and therefore a valid driving licence and use of a car is required.
If this sounds like your next career move, but not sure if your skills and experience are exactly what we're looking for, please do apply; we'd love to hear from you!
