There is an opportunity for a band 6 specialist oncology dietitian. The role will work with a band 7 advanced oncology dietitian to deliver a specialist oncology dietetic service to the Gateshead locality. The role will involve ongoing evaluation of the service.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for providing a specialist dietetic service across Gateshead, to adult oncology patients including oncology home enteral feeding, within a range of settings including outpatient clinics, patients' own homes and where appropriate in reach within the acute setting.
To act as a clinical specialist within the area of oncology and home enteral feeding; working within a multiagency team including specialist nurses, consultants, GP's and other Allied Health Professions (AHP's).
To be responsible for coordinating and developing the Dietetic oncology service for adults within Gateshead. Contribute to audit and service evaluation.
To undertake training of other healthcare professionals and other appropriate agencies across Gateshead as needed.

Job responsibilities
To provide clinical expertise and advice to medical, nursing, other health professionals, service users and carers in a range of settings.
To use dietetic knowledge and expertise to provide appropriate dietary advice (oral and enteral) to service users, carers and staff relating to nutritional care.
To provide continuing community support, social and clinical care for all referred service users.
To provide education and training for health professionals to ensure clinical effectiveness.
To participate in audit, monitoring, evaluation and development of the dietetic services.
To supervise junior members of staff and be actively involved in supervision of students as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree or post graduate diploma/masters in Nutrition and Dietetics
* Current HCPC registration
* Teaching qualification
* PENG masters module or relevant equivalent
* Member of British Dietetic Association
Skills and knowledge
* Demonstrate a good working knowledge of oncology and home enteral feeding
* Competent to manage nutritional support and enteral feeding regimes in adults
* Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to show a problem-solving approach
* Completion of counselling skills/behaviour change course
* Member of relevant BDA specialist interest group
Experience
* Relevant post graduate clinical experience within community dietetics
* Experience of working in, and enthusiasm for oncology
* Evidence of team working
* Experience of audit/data collection
* Experience of training and supervision of student dietitians
* High level of expertise in the specialist area of oncology and home enteral feeding
* Experience of service development or research
* Experience of supporting and developing staff e.g., supervision, teaching, mentoring etc.
