Functional Skills Maths Tutor Location: HMP Dovegate Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 08:00-16:45 Salary: £33,738.00 - £36,467.00 (depending on experience) plus Serco benefits HMP Dovegate is a category B male establishment prison based on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border near Uttoxeter. We are looking for a passionate and skilled functional skills maths tutor to join our education team. This role will focus on delivering high-quality functional skills maths lessons to learners, many of whom come from non-traditional educational backgrounds. You will need to inspire and support students to build confidence in numeracy, helping them to achieve qualifications that will support their future employment and rehabilitation. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging functional skills maths lessons tailored to learners’ needs and abilities. Support students in developing numeracy skills, problem-solving, and real-life maths applications. Prepare learning materials, mark assignments, and track student progress. Assess learners’ needs and provide targeted support to help them achieve their qualifications. Deliver lessons in both classroom and work-based learning environments. Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the learning experience. Record and monitor key data, including retention, achievement, and success rates. What You’ll Need Qualifications: Level 3 Award in Education and Training (QCF) Level 3 qualification in mathematics or a relevant numeracy-based subject Experience teaching post-16 and/or adult further education Desirable: Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) Level 5 qualification in mathematics Training, Assessment, and Quality Assurance (TAQA) Level 4 Experience & Skills: Experience delivering functional skills maths or similar numeracy-based courses. Ability to adapt teaching methods to support learners from diverse backgrounds. Strong knowledge of maths curriculum, assessment methods, and real-world applications. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a challenging but rewarding environment, such as a custodial setting.
