National Highways have an exciting opportunity for a Highways Inspector Team Manager to join our team in the Southwest region (Taunton or Exeter). The Highways Inspector Team Manager will provide management and direction to a team of Highway Inspectors and ensure delivery of a high-quality service that meets the requirements of National Highways special defence under Section 58 of the Highways Act.
The role will have on duty responsibility and may be required to work unsociable hours.
You will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have a full driving license with no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.
Key Responsibilities
* To ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.
* To provide line management for a team of Highways Inspectors, ensuring timely setting of objectives, performance management reviews, and development of appropriate succession and development plans.
* To manage the utilisation and allocation of team resources to ensure appropriate resourcing levels for all the activities in scope, including managing duty responsibilities for highway asset advice at incidents.
* To manage the development and delivery of inspections schedules in line with agreed timescales, budgets and procedures and to ensure that all inspection findings are recorded in the relevant systems and meet data capture standards.
* To manage the delivery of timely inspections for asset repairs, and ensure that any delays, reoccurring quality issues or concerns are resolved or escalated as appropriate.
About you.
* Good IT knowledge with experience in the use of MS applications.
* Understanding and experience in using asset management databases.
* Good understanding of H&S implications of working on high-speed roads.
* Ability to drive clarity and focus through times of change and/or ambiguity.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
