Mediplacements are seeking a driven and motivated band 6 Paediatric Dietitian to work at our client's hospital in Sutton Coldfield. The pay for this position is £23-£28 per hour, and we are looking for someone who can start as soon as possible for an ongoing duration. Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Dietitian to join our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Eating Disorder Unit. The Dietitian will play a crucial role in the treatment and recovery of young patients with eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and other disordered eating behaviors. The ideal candidate will provide tailored nutritional care, support psychological recovery, and work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, patient-centered care. Key Responsibilities: Nutritional Assessment and Care Planning: Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for young people with eating disorders, taking into account their medical history, psychological status, and dietary behaviors. Develop individualized nutrition care plans aimed at restoring a healthy weight, normalizing eating patterns, and addressing nutritional deficiencies. Monitor and evaluate the patient's progress and adjust care plans as needed to support recovery goals. Meal Planning and Support: Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team to develop appropriate meal plans, ensuring they meet both nutritional needs and psychological goals. Provide support and guidance around structured meal times, snack choices, and portion sizes, ensuring meals are part of the therapeutic process. Help patients rebuild a healthy relationship with food by educating them on balanced nutrition, mindful eating, and recognizing hunger and fullness cues. Patient and Family Education: Educate young people and their families about the impact of nutrition on health, growth, and recovery, addressing common misconceptions related to food and body image. Provide practical guidance to parents and caregivers on how to support the patient's recovery at home, including meal preparation and managing challenging eating behaviors. Offer group education sessions to foster peer support and shared learning about healthy eating and nutrition. Collaboration with the Multidisciplinary Team: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, and therapists, to ensure that nutritional care is integrated with the overall treatment plan. Contribute to case discussions, team meetings, and care planning sessions, providing nutritional insights that support the broader therapeutic goals. Participate in family-based therapy sessions when needed, offering nutritional perspectives to help families navigate complex eating challenges. Monitoring and Managing Physical Health: Monitor patients' physical health, including weight trends, biochemical markers (e.g., electrolytes), and signs of refeeding syndrome or other medical complications. Liaise with medical professionals to ensure appropriate interventions are in place for physical health risks related to malnutrition or disordered eating. Ensure accurate documentation of patients' nutritional care and progress in their medical records. Psychological Support and Motivational Counseling: Use motivational interviewing and behavior-change techniques to encourage positive attitudes toward food and recovery. Help young people overcome fears and anxieties related to eating by addressing distorted thinking patterns around food and weight. Provide emotional support to patients struggling with meal challenges or setbacks in their recovery. Skills: Strong understanding of the nutritional and psychological aspects of eating disorders, including knowledge of refeeding protocols, managing restrictive eating, and supporting weight restoration. Excellent communication skills for working with young people, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Ability to provide both one-on-one and group-based nutritional education and support.
