Main duties of the job
We are excited to advertise a 12 month fixed term maternity cover in the Microbiology laboratory at Southampton General Hospital. The role would be working core hours, Monday-Friday 09:00-17:30. We are looking for a specialist BMS with extensive knowledge in all aspects of Bacteriology. The laboratory provides a full clinical diagnostic service including parasitology, mycology, an extensive AST section, and provides TB testing for several hospitals.
Job responsibilities
* IBMS Specialist diploma in Medical Microbiology required or equivalent experience in a clinical diagnostic lab
* Extensive post-registration experience
* Support the day to day running of the section and a point for enquiries from junior staff
* Strong training experience of staff of a wide range of grades
* Strong understanding of Quality Control testing
* Demonstrates inclusivity and accommodates and supports colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* HCPC approved Biomedical Science degree (BSc) or other HCPC approved degree/top ups
* HCPC registered
* Evidence of current CPD activities
* Significant previous experience in a medical laboratory
* IBMS specialist portfolio (in relevant discipline) or equivalent
* IT competency (hospital IT systems, Outlook, Microsoft)
* Experience in a large acute hospital laboratory

Salary: £37,338 to £44,962 a year Per Annum (PA) Pro Rata
