Overview
The Director of New Modality Research will lead the development and execution of innovative strategies to discover and advance new therapeutic modalities. This role is critical to driving scientific excellence and fostering cross-functional collaboration to achieve goals.

The WuXi Biology division provides a full spectrum of biology-related services and solutions, supporting stand-alone and integrated projects from early discovery to clinical development with 3,000+ scientists across 9 global sites.
WuXi Biology’s Boston Site is strategically located in the heart of the Greater Boston area, recognized as the global epicenter of biotech innovation and venture investment. The Boston site serves as a key hub to demonstrate our global scientific capabilities to prominent US-based biotech companies.
Responsibilities
1. Lead the development of new modality DEL including solid phase DEL, peptide DEL, etc.
2. Participate in technical discussions and development in cross-functional teams including display, DEL, and others.
3. Work collaboratively with colleagues across various functions (at department, division, and company levels) in client service and capability buildup.
4. Effectively communicate and interface with business partners, developing and maintaining excellent business relationships with internal and external clients.
5. Anticipate scientific barriers and proactively develop strategies to ensure successful drug evaluation.
6. Contribute to the overall operations and to the achievement of departmental goals.
7. Perform job-specific tasks in compliance with applicable regulations, international standards, WuXi AppTec policies, and standard operating procedures.
8. Assist in other departments as required.
9. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
1. PhD in an organic chemistry-related profession, with more than 5 years of relevant post-doctoral experience.
2. Hands-on experience with DEL construction, peptide synthesis, solid phase chemistry, etc.
3. 2 or more years of industry experience in a related subject.
4. Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
5. Experience in large CRO companies preferred.
6. Demonstrated communication skills in both English and Chinese a plus.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
1. Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills. Ability to listen and understand other points of view; effectively articulate vision and persuade key stakeholders across the organization.
2. Ability to read, write, and understand English and Mandarin.
3. Ability to work in a team environment and independently as required.
4. Proficient in Microsoft Office.
5. Ability to travel for business as required.
Physical Requirements:
1. Must be able to work in an office environment with minimal noise conditions.
2. Must be able to work in a lab setting with exposure to animals/biohazards/chemicals.
3. Must not have animal allergies to applicable species in this facility.
4. Must be able to wear appropriate PPE.
5. Must be able to work in an environment with variable noise levels.
6. Ability to stand/sit/walk for long periods of time.
7. Ability to lift 10 lbs. routinely.
8. Ability to crouch, bend, twist, and reach.
9. Ability to push/pull 10 lbs. routinely/often/occasionally.
