Are you passionate about supporting families during some of the most challenging times in their lives? Do you want to be part of an ambitious, values-driven organisation making a real difference? If so, we’d love to hear from you. About the Role We’re excited to launch a brand-new role: Development Officer – Kent. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of an inspiring new project supporting families affected by imprisonment. This is your chance to play a key role in transforming how families are supported at court and through the transition of a loved one going into prison. You’ll be working directly with families, courts, schools, prisons, and other local services to create a support system that truly puts families first. This role offers a blend of frontline service delivery, community engagement, and project development – and no two days will be the same. What You’ll Be Doing: Supporting families in and around Maidstone & Canterbury Courts, and ensuring smooth transitions into HMP Elmley and HMP Rochester. Recruiting and managing local volunteers, including those with lived experience, to provide compassionate, practical court-based support. Working closely with prison Family Services teams to ensure continuity of care. Coordinating events, forums, and training sessions – including engaging local schools on how imprisonment impacts children’s education. Facilitating Enhanced Family Forums to ensure families’ voices are heard and embedded in service design. Developing strong partnerships with schools, social services, probation, and courts to create lasting change for families. Leading on volunteer development, resource creation, and monitoring impact to help shape and grow this innovative project. What We’re Looking For: A compassionate and proactive individual who thrives on helping others Excellent communication and relationship-building skills Experience supporting volunteers or delivering community-based support A genuine interest in family-focused, trauma-informed practice A collaborative team player who brings energy, initiative, and creativity About You: We're looking for a true all-rounder who will come into this role and shine. You may or may not have experience of working in the criminal justice system, but what you will have is a real commitment to the work we're trying to do to improve outcomes for prisoners and their families. You should be highly organised with strong admin and IT skills and have a good understanding of volunteering. You will also have knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and data security, and understand the importance of professional boundaries in an environment like this.
