Department Overview The Bank's Technology Directorate is committed to the provision of high quality IT services aligned to the business needs. Technology is changing; at the core of our new technology strategy is the concept of scalable, self-serve platforms. CNI Platform is foundation on top of which applications considered Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) are built and run. The role sits within the CNI Platform team which is still early in its lifecycle; the current focus is on providing capabilities for our first customers. It uses commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products as much as possible, although some solutions require a more customised approach. We are striving to improve our engineering technologies to make supporting the platform as simple as possible; we are also looking to iterate on and improve the services we provide to our customers. In time, we expect to onboard new customers and increase the number of products and services we offer. Job Description As a Senior DevOps Engineer, your role will involve developing and maintaining system automation, infrastructure orchestration, deployment systems, and tools to ensure the scalability and stability of production services. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required, and you should be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for self-motivated individuals with initiative who can self-start, upskill in new technologies, creatively solve problems, and are committed to delivering high-quality outcomes. Minimum (Essential) Criteria Extensive experience building and running high-availability services, considering operability and security by design Sound understanding and practical implementation of both CI and CD Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code Tooling, e.g. Ansible, Terraform Extensive use of git for source control Strong Linux skills Strong scripting experience, e.g. Bash, Python, including testing Hands-on experience of security concerns, e.g. PKI, secrets management, access controls Ability to pass on your knowledge and experience to others, to help them grow in their role and work practices Experience of Agile, and supporting your Product Owner as a senior engineer on the team Experience on leading on specific technical workstreams, but also work in a team Desirable Criteria Experience of Containerisation and Orchestration, e.g. Docker, K8s Ability to script/code in multiple languages, e.g. Groovy, Python, PowerShell Windows OS, Windows SQL Server experience Embrace experimentation and learn quickly from failures Communication is key, ability to engage with your customers and team, and understand their requirements Understanding of observability and its implementation Networking knowledge Understanding of data science concepts Have previously worked in a high-security environment Our Approach to Inclusion The Bank values diversity, equity and inclusion. Salary and Benefits Information We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate. We offer a salary as follows: Leeds circa £70,510 - ££81,360 London circa £78,310 - £90,360 In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below: A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year. A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool. A 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits. 26 days' annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
