As a part of the mechanical R&D team for upper limb prosthetics, you will be a Mechanical Engineer involved in the conceptualization, detail design, development and verification of electro-mechanical bionic limbs. You will play an integral part in the mechanical team, providing knowledge, expertise and support across all functions with a focus on developing robust and innovative mechanical solutions. You will communicate effectively cross-departmentally around design criteria, project progress and planning of your workload.
Your Tasks:
* To effectively liaise with Technology Managers and Project Managers to deliver on departmental objectives and goals.
* To generate robust mechanical designs, mechanisms and products in line with product requirements, supported by sound engineering calculations and principles.
* To devise, develop and evaluate new product concepts, technologies, materials and processes.
* Deliver product designs, drawings and schematics in line with the company’s product development process.
* Managing your own workload, identifying day to day priorities by assessing departmental goals and effective communication of negative impacts.
Who are you:
* MEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Demonstrable delivery of sound mechanical designs and a high level of attention to detail for detailed part drawings.
* Extensive experience with Solidworks, both mechanical mechanisms and surface modelling.
* Experience in design FEA, both component and system level.
* Demonstrable experience of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
* Experience in appropriate material selection including calculation for load, stress, wear etc.
* Experience with design of moulded components.
* Sound understanding of manufacturing and machining processes.
* Strong communication, both written and verbal to all levels of organization.
* Team player, able to motivate and communicate effectively.
* Resourcefulness. Able to find a way through issues and challenges when the way forward is not clear.
* Adaptability, ability to adapt and embrace differing concepts and design intent and work to deliver the best possible outcomes.
* Creative thinking and innovative approach to problem solving.
