Job Summary
ESTEP are currently in a position to recruit an experienced mental health nurse for a fixed term contract (up to 9 months) to cover maternity leave.
ESTEP is the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service that covers South East Essex and we are looking for an experienced mental health nurse to become an EIP Care Co-ordinator for a fixed term. We seek someone who has existing community experience, ideally within an EIP setting and who has a passion for working with this client group.
Main Duties of the Job
Being part of someone's journey towards recovery is extremely powerful and rewarding. For people who have had a psychotic illness we offer a 3-year period of engagement with the team, this means that practitioners can take time to establish relationships and agree plans of care.
There are clear NICE guidelines in terms of a care plan offer and what should be included. Much of the first few months are about getting to know the person you are working with to develop trust and a shared understanding about what a person is experiencing and why.
The skills required to be an effective EIP practitioner include:
* Adapting your working approach to establish relationships with those people you work with.
* Balancing clinical activity with good standards of record keeping on the electronic record.
* Providing psychoeducation around psychosis.
* Using assessment tools.
* Engaging with friends/families/carers.
* Contributing to an MDT setting.
* Engaging in supervision and training.
* Understanding medication and its benefits.
* Understanding CBT and the evidence that aids recovery from psychosis.
* Assessing and managing risks effectively.
* Skilled in care planning.
