This position offers a flexible work schedule 20-40 hours/week including availability during standard business hours. It is anticipated that this position will work a blend of remote and in-office work (1 day per week in office, may vary depending on business needs) at our downtown Madison location (201 E. Washington Ave.). Our office is located near a wide variety of restaurants and food carts, live music and events, the farmer’s market, B-cycle rentals, lakefront parks, the Capital City bike path, and multiple bus routes.

Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Policy Initiatives Advisor of the Division of Employment & Training (DET), this position will work closely with multiple functional areas of the division to research, plan, develop, and distribute communication materials to wide internal and external audiences, specifically website content, newsletters, PowerPoints, press releases, and videos. In addition, this position collaborates with various departmental and department program teams and communicates with a variety of agency customers and stakeholders on communications-related projects and assignments.
Starting pay is between $18.00 – $22.00/hour, depending on qualifications.
The classification title for this position is Communications Specialist (schedule 07, range 05). This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is considered non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.
Travel: In-state travel may be required to assist in the execution of successful Division events.
Wisconsin residency: Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment.
Remote work: This position will work a hybrid remote schedule. Employees with approved remote and hybrid-remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin. High-speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change.
Criminal histories: We also consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. For positions with access to sensitive federal tax information, FBI fingerprinting may also be required.
Eligibility to work in United States: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant completing the I-9 upon hire.
Qualifications

You need to have the following experience:
1. *Academic preparation (e.g., coursework) or experience related to communications, marketing, public relations, or similar.
2. *Using office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
3. *Academic or professional experience working on projects with multiple tasks and deadlines.
4. Communicating and collaborating with others to accomplish goals and objectives.
5. Ability to work independently.
Any of the following experience would be nice to have:
1. *Academic or professional experience promoting an event in a communications, marketing, or public relations role.
2. *Academic or professional experience developing materials (e.g., talking points, event background information, reports, or similar) for management.
3. *Developing materials to promote programs or services (e.g., graphic design, outreach materials, press releases, brochures, flyers, social media content development, or similar).
