Contek Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a reputable precision engineering company, located in Tamworth, West Midlands. Due to continued success and growth, we are now looking for an experienced Purchasing Manager to join the team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Founded in the UK, in 1939, they have been working with customers to turn complex ideas and concepts into solutions for over 80 years and has built an exemplary international reputation. As of 2025, they have a growing team of over 65 staff, and a healthy annual turnover of over £10m. They supply customers in a variety of sectors who require stringent traceability standards and adherence to processes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop and implement purchasing strategies to ensure cost-effective procurement of materials and services.
2. Manage the entire purchasing process, from supplier selection to order placement and delivery.
3. Sourcing relevant goods and services from our existing supplier database.
4. Identifying and approving new suppliers, working within the scope of our internal procedures while also adhering to our customers' requirements.
5. Review and analyse engineering drawings to identify and purchase requirements for material, tooling and subcontract processes.
6. Progress chasing purchase orders to ensure requested delivery dates are adhered to.
7. Maintain and update the existing MRP system with accurate purchasing data.
8. Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating terms and conditions to secure the best deals.
9. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, particularly in sectors requiring auditing and traceability.
10. Monitor and evaluate supplier performance, ensuring they meet quality, delivery, and cost requirements including regular supplier liaison to ensure working relationships are maintained.
11. Assessment of supplier's performance through the use of the company scorecard.
12. Obtain and maintain supplier accreditations and certifications as required.
13. Prepare and present regular reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, and supplier performance.
REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate will be able to evidence experience in a purchasing or procurement role, preferably within the Mechanical Engineering sector.
You will have excellent negotiation and communication skills, be experienced in managing your time effectively and, whether working independently or as part of a team, be confident in your decision-making abilities.
You will have strong analytical skills and be able to solve problems when required, undertaking multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail to ensure the needs of the company's various stakeholders are met.
