This Is The Team...
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join the highly respected Commercial Finance team at River Island. The team supports all the core business areas, from Retail performance to Product management and Buying support. We help manage the cost base and guide all stakeholders to help achieve our financial and non-financial objectives.
This Is The Role...
• Strategic Financial Planning:
* Lead the Financial Planning and Analysis function to support strategic decisions and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
* Own and control the annual budgeted and re-forecasting process with cross functional collaboration and scenario modelling.
* Own the in-year commercial outlook process including detailing all relevant cross functional risks and opportunities.
Financial Analysis and Decision Support:
* Deliver insightful trading analysis and help support the review process across the group.
* Conduct advanced financial analysis to assess market trends, pricing strategies, customer behaviours, and competitive dynamics.
* Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership on optimizing revenue growth, cost management, and profitability.
Revenue and Cost Optimization:
* Analyse sales performance and understand all segments that make up Gross profit to highlight risks and opportunities within current trading patterns.
* Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements across the business.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
* Partner with sales, marketing, operations, and other departments to align financial goals with commercial objectives.
* Support the development of business strategies that drive sustainable growth and profitability.
Reporting and Compliance:
* Deliver insightful Board reporting with a focus on the story behind the numbers rather than production of pure data led information.
* Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports for senior management, investors, and stakeholders.
* Maintain compliance with financial regulations and reporting standards.
Team Leadership:
* Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
* Provide guidance and support to junior staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality financial analysis and decision-making.
Skills and attributes:
* Stakeholder support is a vital part of the role. Be truly commercial which will include partnering with your colleagues in finance and other functional areas.
* Support the development of business strategies that align with overall organizational goals.
* Challenge the output. Be curious about data and reporting to focus on the 'So what'?
What we are looking for:
* A professional finance qualification with a minimum of 5 years PQE working in a Financial Planning and Analysis function and ideally experience working in or with a Commercial Finance area.
* An expert modeller. Advanced Excel skills with experience of building accurate financial models from scratch.
* The ability to create insightful, concise and clear presentations with visuals and supporting information for reader to understand without the need for further questions or analysis.
* Be commercially curious, draw conclusions and propose recommendations.
* Confident, approachable and with an attention to detail highlighting your problem-solving skills.
* A balanced approach to challenge at all stakeholder levels based on accurate and clear analysis with the support of other relevant insight.
* Proven track record in driving business results through financial insights and strategic planning.
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Experience of using ERP systems (e.g., Oracle) and other financial software applications.
